Breast Cancer Awareness Events

Breast cancer happens to be one of the most common forms of cancer. In fact, around 1 in every 8 women in the United Sates, which is a total of about 12% of all women in the county, will end up developing breast cancer at some point in time. While some women may develop invasive breast cancer, there is still a lot of women who will end up with the cancer throughout the span of their life. In 2011 alone, there were nearly 250,000 reported invasive breast cancer diagnoses. Along with invasive breast cancer diagnoses, there was also thousands of non-invasive breast cancer cases developed throughout the year as well.

In the United States, there are thousands of women who die from breast cancer each and every year. Although over the span of the past two decades the number of women dying from breast cancer has decreased, but it is believed that is partly due to advances that have been made in technology and medicine. Even with the advances that have been made, there are still many women who die from the cancer, and it is for that reason that a number of breast cancer awareness events are held.

There are a number of different reasons behind breast cancer awareness events. The primary purpose is to increase awareness so that more women realize the importance of visiting their doctor and scheduling a mammogram to check for any cancerous lumps. Some women may suffer from breast cancer, but will never know if they are not receiving routine mammograms. Along with encouraging women to get checkups, these events are also about showing respect from the women with courage who are fighting off this cancer, and for those who have lost their battle with breast cancer.

One of the main events from breast cancer is the annual Breast Cancer Walk. This walk takes place in a number of different cities and states around the country and it’s goal is to support women and men who suffer from breast cancer. It is also about raising money for the Susan G. Komen Foundation to find a cure for this form of cancer. Participating in this type of event is a fantastic way for everyone to show their support for this important cause while raising awareness and raising money for a cure. These walks typically take place during the month of October, which is known a Breast Cancer Awareness Month.
